LYCHEE CHINENSIS

( lychee or litchi )

An attractive, slow growing evergreen tree originating in China which can reach heights of 35 feet. The lychee tree has pinate leaves with a shiny leather texture and fruit growing in clusters. The ripe fruit is one to one and a half inches long and has dark red-brown rough skin. The flesh is pearly white, sweet and firm. A good source of vitanin C and phosphorus, lychees are excellent eaten fresh or sun-dried as "lychee nuts".
